One 41-year-old Nigerian man, Gabriel Onyeka, don enter police hand for India sake of say dem say e scam one businessman of ₹1.25 crore (wey be over N233 million) for one kind big online fraud.
Dem arrest Onyeka for him house wey dey Kalyan, Maharashtra, on Monday, May 19, 2025. Na cybercrime police catch am, and dem believe say na him be the brain behind the whole cyber gang.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police for cybercrime, Mayursinh Rajput, Onyeka pretend like say e be top oga for one popular pharmaceutical company. Na so e take reach out to one civil engineer wey dey Vadodara, say e wan place big order for one Ayurvedic liquid wey dem dey call Plukenetia volubilis – something wey people dey use for health, beauty and medicine products.
Rajput talk say, “Onyeka first send the victim email say e wan give am dealership plus big order. Later, he direct am make e buy the liquid from one particular supplier – but that supplier na fake company wey Onyeka dey run by himself.”
The man no know say na trap, so e buy one litre of the liquid from the fake supplier.
After that one, Onyeka padi-dem come meet the man say dem wan check the quality of the product, and na so dem convince am make e invest more money.
The businessman wey dey find better profit come believe dem and later send ₹47 lakh again to buy more.
Dem no stop there – the scammers continue to deceive the man with different lies, until dem finally collect ₹1.25 crore from am.
Rajput talk say, “As we notice say na fraud, we begin trace the phone number wey Onyeka use. Na so we take catch am for Mumbai.”
He still talk say Onyeka use the same phone number for the whole operation.
Wen dem arrest am, police collect four phone from am.
One of the phones get WhatsApp screenshot of message wey e send to the victim – wey confirm say e dey involved.
Investigation still show say Gabriel Onyeka don dey live for India illegally for more than ten years.
E first land India for 2012 with medical visa for treatment for West Bengal. But wen the visa expire, e no comot again – instead, e waka go Mumbai go continue to stay.
For 2020, Mumbai police don already open case for am say e overstay him visa.
Onyeka dey stay for 2-bedroom flat for 20th floor of one tall building for Kalyan.
