Over 200,000 students don score pass 200 for JAMB UTME resit

No be small thing, as over 200,000 extra candidates don pass the 200 score mark for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) after JAMB organise resit because of plenty wahala wey spoil the original exam — like technical and human error.

Dem release the new result and performance stats on Sunday, May 25, after the rescheduled exam result come out.

According to JAMB, 1,365,479 candidates (wey be 70.7% of the 1.9 million wey write the exam) still score below 200 even after combining the first exam and the resit. But this one still better pass the early result wey dem release on May 9, 2025, when over 1.5 million people no reach 200, wey cause serious concern across the country.

After people begin shout and dey complain, JAMB do internal check and discover say na system problem and human error cause am. Because of that, dem do resit for 379,000 candidates, mostly for places like Lagos and South East where wahala plenty.

The resit results show say many of the candidates wey no do well before don improve, and about 200,000 more people now score 200 and above. JAMB talk say na one of the best results dem don get since dem start Computer Based Test (CBT) in 2013.

Altogether, 1,931,467 results come out in 2025, which pass the 1,842,364 wey come out in 2024 — show say more people dey take the exam every year.

For the stats:

  • 117,373 candidates (6.08%) score 250 and above — better pass 77,070 (4.18%) in 2024 and 56,736 (3.73%) in 2023.
  • For those wey score 300 and above, 8,401 (0.46%) reach that level — better pass 5,318 (0.35%) in 2023 and only 724 (0.06%) in 2021. For 2013 and 2014, nobody even reach 300.
  • 565,988 candidates (29.3%) score 200 and above — up from 439,961 (24%) in 2024 and 355,689 (23.36%) in 2023.

Even though things don improve small, majority still never reach average. But failure rate don reduce small — from 76% in 2024 to 70.7% now.

If we look history, for 2021, na only 168,650 people (13%) score 200 and above. But for 2016, 568,847 (34%) reach that level.

JAMB say the better performance na because of the reforms dem don dey do and how students don dey used to the CBT way since 2013. JAMB go still give more info on how these results go affect admission for 2025/2026 session soon.
