Di Cross River State House of Assembly don suspend di Chairlady of Bekwarra Local Government Area, Theresa Ushie, for three months, based on petition wey members of Bekwarra Legislative Council write, accuse her say she dey misuse her office and chop government money.
Dem talk dis one for statement wey Chief Press Secretary to di Speaker, Matthew Okache, release. According to di statement, di suspension follow wetin Section 14(3) of Cross River State Local Government Law talk.
Part of di statement talk say:
“For resolution wey dem pass for di floor of di House, di Assembly order Hon. Theresa Ushie make she step aside for 90 days so dem fit do independent investigation on top di allegations without her put hand for di matter.
Di Assembly look di impeachment notice wey eight out of ten councillors for Bekwarra Legislative Council submit, and dem gree say make she comot. Di petition wey dem date May 19, 2025, accuse Hon. Ushie say she dey mismanage money, do gra-gra for office, and dey abuse power. Dem say she no dey follow due process and law anytime she dey do her work.”
Dem still talk say di Vice Chairman of Bekwarra LGA, Egbung Odama, go take over as Acting Chairman for now, and e go make sure say everything dey stable and di council dey run well.
Di Speaker of di House, Elvert Ayambem, talk say wetin dem do na because dem want make everything transparent, accountable, and to promote better governance for local level.
