Di incident happen on May 30, 2025, as di family dey prepare for dia pikin birthday celebration and also dey plan to relocate go abroad.
One engineer wey im name na John Perede Akpoyibo wey report di matter on Saturday, June 14, talk say na di papa dey try fix burner for one small gas cylinder when another gas cooker wey dey nearby still dey on.
Na from dat small cylinder gas leak come reach di other flame, wey cause heavy explosion.
Di papa die not long after di explosion. Di mama wey just comot from bathroom suffer serious burns, dem rush am go University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), but she still later die. Di daughter wey just get visa and dey plan travel abroad too get bad burns. She die on Saturday, June 14, 2025, for di same hospital.
Akpoyibo talk say wetin cause di explosion na because dem dey use many gas cylinders inside small space and dem no get safety equipment like gas leak detector or fire extinguisher.
E beg people make dem no dey use more than one gas cylinder for closed space, make dem ensure say air dey circulate well, and make dem off every fire before dem handle gas.
Akpoyibo also beg say make awareness for gas safety increase for communities so say dis kind accident no go happen again.
