One police officer and one vigilante member don die as some people wey dem suspect to be cultists attack them for Ahoada community inside Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State on Monday, June 23.
According to statement wey come from the Police Command spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the deadly attack na work of suspected cult boys wey be led by two men — Umegbewe Kingsley a.k.a. ‘Gutam’ and one other guy wey dem call Opaka (dem no sabi him surname). She talk say the attackers, wey dem believe na leaders of Iceland cult group, storm the OSPAC office near the Ahoada East Council Secretariat and begin shoot anyhow.
She talk say:
“During the attack, one OSPAC operative wey dem call Ngozi Ipah chop bullet. As the attackers dey run, dem still shoot one police officer, Corporal Francis Friday, wey dey on special duty with the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) for the Secretariat.”
The police spokesperson talk say patrol teams wey the divisional police officer lead rush reach the scene, but by then, the attackers don already disappear. Dem rush the two victims go Ahoada General Hospital but doctors later confirm say both of them don die because dem chop multiple gunshots. Their bodies don enter hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Iringe-Koko still talk say the state Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, don visit the scene of the crime and don send tactical teams go the area. He don tell the Area Commander and DPO make dem double effort to catch the killers. The CP talk say the people wey kill the police officer and the OSPAC member no go escape justice.
