The Nigerian Senate don approve Rivers State 2025 budget wey reach N1.485 trillion today, June 25.
Dem pass the budget after dem review the report from the Senate Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State during one Committee of Supply session for the upper chamber.
The bill go allow the release of N1,485,662,592,442 from Rivers State Consolidated Revenue Fund to take run the state from now till December 31, 2025.
Breakdown of the budget include:
- N120.8 billion for debt servicing
- N287.38 billion for recurrent (non-debt) expenses
- N1.077 trillion for capital projects
But Senator Abdul Ningi from Bauchi Central raise concern about the extra N50 billion wey dem allocate for unpaid pensions and gratuities. Even though he support the bill, he beg make the Senate Committee monitor the money well so e go reach the real pensioners quickly.
With this approval, Rivers State 2025 budget go now move ahead for full implementation.
Make we remember say President Bola Tinubu suspend Rivers State House of Assembly and send the budget come National Assembly for review around May.
Na after serious political wahala between the current governor and him predecessor, Nyesom Wike (wey now be FCT Minister), Tinubu declare state of emergency for Rivers on March 18.
As part of the emergency measures, Tinubu suspend the state governor and House of Assembly members, and appoint Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (rtd) as administrator to run the state for the first six months.
