The Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) don jail five Chinese nationals on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, for cyberterrorism and internet fraud. The sentencing happen for Federal High Court, Ikoyi, wey Justice Dehinde Dipeolu preside over.
The five people wey dem sentence be:
- Guo Qiang (aka Wu You You)
- Yang Shumei
- Guo Zhi Yong
- Zhang Gia Feng
- Lu Yi Liang
Dem be part of one syndicate of 792 people wey EFCC arrest on December 19, 2024, for Lagos during one sting operation wey dem name “Eagle Flush Operation”. The group dey involved in cryptocurrency investment scam and romance fraud.
Dem arraign all of dem with different charges wey concern cyberterrorism and internet fraud.
One of the charges talk say:
“You, Guo Qiang (aka Wu You You), sometime in December 2024 for Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, willfully use computer system with intention to scatter and destroy the economy and social structure of Nigeria. You take commit offence wey dey under **Section 18 of the Cybercrime Act (2015 as amended in 2024).”
At first, all of dem talk say dem no guilty, but during the court session on Tuesday, dem change mouth and talk say dem guilty.
Based on that, the EFCC lawyer, U.S. Kyari, beg the court to convict them as charged.
The judge sentence all of them to:
- One year imprisonment
- Plus ₦1,000,000 (One Million Naira) fine each.
The judge still order say after dem finish their sentence, the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) must deport all of them back to their country within seven days.
