An Anambra State High Court has granted bail to popular Nnewi-based native doctor, Ikechukwu JohnPaul Ezenagu, widely known as “Mmuo Mmili Afuluanya,” in the sum of ₦50 million. The court also imposed strict conditions, including a directive barring him from granting media interviews while his trial remains ongoing.

Justice Jude Obiora, who presided over the matter, ruled that the defendant must provide one surety and submit the title documents of his residence as part of the bail conditions. The property could be forfeited if he fails to appear in court as required.

Speaking after the court session, one of the defence lawyers, Kingsley Awuka, welcomed the ruling, describing the bail terms as reasonable and achievable. He expressed confidence that the judicial process would deliver justice.

The prosecution is being led by Anambra State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Tobechukwu Nweke (SAN). Ezenagu is facing charges related to alleged violations of the Anambra Homeland Security Law.

The court adjourned the case until July 3 for further hearing.

Ezenagu was arrested earlier this year during a crackdown by the Anambra State Government on native doctors and traditionalists suspected of providing spiritual protection and charms for criminal elements operating within the state. His arrest has attracted significant public attention across the region.
