# 20 million Nigerians dey fight mental health wahala – WHO


World Health Organisation (WHO) don talk say about 20 million Nigerians – wey be like 20% of di whole population – dey live with mental health wahala.

Dr Azubike Aliche, wey be Secretary for Board of Trustees of Nigeria-American Institute for Mental Health (NAIMH), talk this one during one mental health GAP Action training wey dem do for Owerri on Tuesday, May 27.

Aliche talk say di training go help people wey no be psychiatric doctors to sabi how to check people wey dey show signs of mental wahala and also help dem manage am.

He say di rate of depression for Nigeria don reach one kind level wey no be small, and e even talk say report don show say Nigeria get di highest rate of depression for di whole world – e call am “alarming” and beg make serious efforts dey to change di story.

According to am:
“Report wey we get show say na only 10% of people wey dey suffer mental health wahala dey get access to care for Nigeria – and this kain thing need to change.”

Di state Commissioner for Health, Dr Chioma Egu, talk say this mental health matter na “global challenge,” and she beg di institute make dem use government mental health policy well.

One of di people wey dey train others, Mr Justice Ulunta from Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu, also beg government make dem provide better support and money to train more mental health experts and to provide correct equipment for di work.
