For April, Cruz don plead guilty say na she kill Hodges on January 2 inside Joe’s Deli Grocery. Hodges na father of two and him be 36 years old.
Cruz stab am after Hodges challenge her say she jump queue for the counter inside the shop. Later she talk say the man “deserve am,” na wetin prosecutors talk.
For the sentencing on Thursday, Cruz lawyer talk say Hodges throw insult about “her gender identity” during the wahala for the shop.
The lawyer come still mention say Cruz, wey don get history of knife violence, dey take medicine to maintain her gender, and him beg say make dem put her for female prison.
After the sentencing, Hodges family vex come dey shout “Na boy!” and “F–king boy!” for inside court, while other people wey come support wear shirt wey get “Justice for Ray” for body.
Judge Carro talk say the killing no get sense and na just small misunderstanding cause am.
But he still talk say “to prove say person really plan to kill dey hard,” which be why dem gree do plea bargain and give her light sentence.
Cruz take the plea deal for April, just three months after prosecutors first charge her with second-degree murder — that one carry up to 25 years to life for prison.
