U.S. President Donald Trump has once again taken aim at former President Barack Obama, accusing him of adopting a weak approach toward Iran during his administration’s nuclear negotiations.
Speaking during a recent press briefing, Trump alleged that Iranian officials openly mocked Obama while discussions surrounding the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal, were underway. According to Trump, Iranian leaders did not take the Obama administration seriously and ridiculed the former president behind closed doors.
Trump argued that the agreement provided significant financial relief to Iran while failing to adequately address concerns about the country’s nuclear ambitions. He also criticized the transfer of funds to Iran under the deal, claiming it projected weakness rather than strength.
The former president’s remarks came as discussions surrounding U.S.-Iran relations and a potential new agreement continue to dominate international headlines. Trump has consistently opposed the JCPOA, describing it as one of the worst foreign policy agreements negotiated by the United States.
The Obama-era nuclear deal was signed in 2015 between Iran, the United States, the European Union, and several world powers. Under the agreement, Iran agreed to limit aspects of its nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief and increased economic access.
Trump withdrew the United States from the deal during his first term in office, arguing that it failed to prevent Iran from pursuing long-term nuclear capabilities. Since then, the agreement has remained a major point of political debate in Washington and among international allies.
