Residents of Idogun community in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State are celebrating after a nine-year-old boy who was abducted by gunmen regained his freedom following three weeks in captivity.
The victim, identified as Victor Oluwatobi, is the son of a local pastor who was kidnapped during a late-night attack on the community earlier this month. His safe return has brought relief to his family, residents, and security agencies involved in efforts to secure his release.
How the Abduction Happened
The incident occurred on June 5 when armed men reportedly stormed Ugbosi Quarters in Idogun in the early hours of the morning, firing gunshots and causing panic among residents.
According to reports, the attackers forced their way into the residence of Pastor Isaac Olaosebikan. In the confusion that followed, the pastor fled for safety but was unable to take all his children with him. The gunmen subsequently abducted his nine-year-old son, Victor.
Residents also reported that some buildings were damaged during the attack as the assailants attempted to gain access to several homes in the area. The incident heightened fears among community members and renewed concerns about insecurity in parts of the state.
Security Agencies Launch Rescue Operation
Following the abduction, security agencies immediately launched a coordinated search operation.
Personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, the Amotekun Corps, local vigilante groups, and other security agencies were deployed to comb forests and surrounding communities in search of the kidnapped child. The Ondo State Government also assured residents that every available resource would be used to secure the boy’s release.
For weeks, the community remained anxious as security operatives intensified efforts to track down the kidnappers and bring the victim home safely.
Boy Reunited With Family
Confirming the development, Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, announced that the boy had been successfully rescued and reunited with his family.
The commissioner praised the efforts of security personnel involved in the operation and commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for supporting the rescue mission. He described the successful operation as evidence of effective collaboration among security agencies in the state.
Residents of Idogun and neighbouring communities have since expressed gratitude to the government and security agencies for ensuring the child’s safe return.

The incident is one of several kidnapping cases reported across different parts of Nigeria in recent months.
