Pregnant Woman Dies by Suicide After Husband Allegedly Demanded DNA Test for Unborn Child

A tragic incident has sparked widespread concern after a 23-year-old pregnant woman reportedly died by suicide following allegations that her husband repeatedly questioned the paternity of their unborn child and demanded a DNA test.

The incident occurred in the Medak district of Telangana, India. According to police, the woman, identified as G. Sushmita, was five months pregnant when she was found dead at her in-laws’ residence on June 25.

Investigators say tensions had developed in the marriage after the husband allegedly became suspicious about the child’s paternity. Family members claim he insisted on conducting a DNA test, an accusation that reportedly caused the woman severe emotional distress.

The victim’s mother also alleged that her daughter had endured ongoing mental and physical harassment since her marriage, and that the repeated accusations ultimately pushed her into despair.

Following a complaint filed by the victim’s family, police arrested the husband and his mother. They have been charged under provisions of India’s Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to cruelty by a husband or relatives and abetment of suicide. Authorities say investigations are continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case.

The incident has reignited discussions about emotional abuse, domestic violence, and the psychological impact of mistrust within relationships. Mental health advocates continue to stress the importance of seeking help and resolving family conflicts through communication and professional support rather than intimidation or humiliation.
