Suspected Boko Haram insurgents attacked a secondary school in Lassa, Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State on Monday, killing a teacher and abducting several students who were sitting for the ongoing National Examinations Council (NECO) examinations.

According to reports, the attackers stormed Government Day Secondary School at about 9:00 a.m., disguising themselves in military camouflage and forest guard uniforms to deceive residents and gain access to the community. Witnesses said the gunmen opened fire, creating panic among students, teachers, and locals before taking away an unspecified number of examination candidates and staff.

During the attack, one teacher was killed, while another reportedly sustained injuries. Security agencies have since launched a search-and-rescue operation to locate the abducted victims and track down the insurgents. The Borno State Police Command confirmed that efforts are underway to rescue those taken by the attackers.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over the safety of schools in Nigeria’s North-East, particularly as students continue nationwide examinations despite persistent security threats in parts of the region. Authorities are urging residents to remain calm while security operations continue.
