Jigawa State Police Command don burst one notorious kidnap gang wey don dey terrorise people for Kano and Jigawa. Dem k!ll five of the kidnappers and arrest another five, including their main boss.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed T Abdullahi, yarn this one during press briefing on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, for Dutse. He say the gang don disturb peace for the two states for long.
He also reveal say one 80-year-old woman, Hajiya Hajara, wey dem kidnap from Kano State, don rescue her during the joint operation wey involve local vigilantes and hunters.
The CP talk say, “Na through better intelligence, serious raid and hard work from our police officers – especially those from Gumel, Gagarawa, Gujungu, Sule Tankarkar, Garki and Ringim – with help from local vigilante, hunters and Yanbulala, we manage burst the kidnap gang wey dey operate for Garki and Sule Tankarkar area.”
He explain say, “On 16th May 2025 around 2am, our intel show say about 12 armed men ride come with 5 motorcycles go carry one old woman, Hajiya Hajara, from her house for Minjibir LGA, Kano State. Dem carry her by force and try pass through Jigawa.”
When dem hear say the criminals dey hide between Danzomo and Medi villages for Sule Tankarkar and Garki LGAs, police plus vigilante and hunters rush go that area. As dem reach, gun battle start between police and the kidnappers.
For the shootout, 5 of the kidnappers die. Police arrest 5 others, including their leader, one Yahya, 35 years old, from Katore Fulani settlement for Garki LGA. He get gunshot wound for leg.
Dem don carry all the suspects go station and dem dey help police with the investigation.
Police recover two AK-47 rifles, one multipurpose machine gun, 14 bullets, two motorcycles wey dem believe say na the kidnappers use, and three mobile phones wey dem suspect say belong to victims or the criminals.
The good news be say, the old woman wey dem kidnap don rescue her safe and sound, and she don go back to her family. Doctor check confirm say she dey okay.
