Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, don talk say all these internet fraudsters wey people dey call “Yahoo boys” don bring big shame to Nigeria.
Him talk this one on Monday, June 16, for EFCC headquarters for Abuja during media briefing. Olukoyede say because of Yahoo boys, Nigerians dey get bad eye anytime dem show green passport for outside country.
In him words:
“Make Nigerians know say wahala dey. If you travel go abroad with green passport, once you reach immigration queue, dem go begin look you somehow. Some go even carry you go one side for extra check. All na national shame wey Yahoo boys don bring on us.”
“I dey meet with my counterparts for abroad, and e dey hard to defend some kind things because of wetin these boys don do. Some no believe in hard work again.”
Him still talk say:
“We arrest some young boys recently. Na so we see say education no dey sweet them again. For the secondary school wey I go, by 12 noon students don dey house.”
Olukoyede still open nyansh on top wetin some of these Yahoo boys dey do:
- Dem no just dey do scam, some dey enter kidnapping and banditry when Yahoo no pay.
- Dem dey wash (launder) money for politicians, both wey dey government and ex-politicians.
- When politicians steal billions, dem go give am to Yahoo boys, dem go open crypto wallet, use style take move the money abroad.
- Some of dem dey use am buy cars, house, or invest for abroad in the name of other people.
Olukoyede add say:
“Make una no dey see dem as just Yahoo boys again. Dem don graduate to bigger crime. Some dey do ritual killing, some dey use school children recruit. One 22-year-old boy we arrest, him account show over N5 billion turnover in 18 months — and he never work before for him life.”
“Na these kind people we wan leave Nigeria for? Na the kind country we wan build be this?”
He end by begging Nigerians to open their eyes and stop praising fraud.
