A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced a 37-year-old man to death by hanging for his involvement in the deadly 2014 Nyanya bomb blast that claimed dozens of lives and left many others injured.
The court found the convict guilty after reviewing evidence presented by prosecutors linking him to the terrorist attack that occurred at the busy Nyanya Motor Park on the outskirts of Abuja on April 14, 2014. The blast, which was attributed to the terrorist group Boko Haram, killed more than 80 people and injured over 200 others.
Delivering judgment, the court held that the prosecution had successfully proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, leading to the maximum sentence prescribed by law.
The Nyanya bombing remains one of the deadliest terror attacks ever carried out in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory. The incident shocked the nation and sparked widespread calls for stronger security measures against terrorism.
