Iran’s national football team is preparing to lodge an official complaint with FIFA over travel restrictions they say have disrupted their preparations at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup. According to officials from the Iranian Football Federation, the limitations have negatively affected the team’s training plans and overall readiness for matches.

The federation expressed frustration after a request to travel from their training base in Tijuana, Mexico, to Los Angeles two days before their upcoming Group G clash against Belgium was reportedly denied. Officials argued that the extra time would have allowed players to acclimatize, complete final training sessions, and adequately prepare for the match.

Iranian authorities claim the team is only being allowed to enter the United States shortly before matches and must leave immediately afterward, a situation they believe places them at a competitive disadvantage compared to other participating nations.

Head coach Amir Ghalenoei previously voiced concerns about the situation, describing his squad as one of the most affected teams in the tournament. The team’s frustrations reportedly increased following their 2-2 draw against New Zealand National Football Team, with officials insisting the restrictions have complicated their preparations.

Despite the setback, the Iranian Football Federation says the team remains focused on its World Cup campaign and will continue preparations ahead of the crucial encounter against Belgium National Football Team. The federation confirmed that it will formally present its concerns to FIFA through the appropriate channels.

FIFA has not yet issued an official response regarding the planned complaint.
