Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have arrested a suspected traffic robber identified as Yahuza Sani, following a routine anti-crime operation in Abuja.
According to police authorities, the suspect was apprehended on Saturday, June 21, during a patrol conducted by officers attached to the Central Police Station (CPS), near the National Hospital area of the capital city.
The arrest reportedly took place around 7pm when undercover officers intercepted the suspect while he was allegedly attempting to rob a female motorist of her belongings.
Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed that the operation was carried out after intelligence reports indicated a rise in traffic robbery incidents targeting motorists and commuters in the area.
She explained that officers had been strategically deployed to monitor and curb criminal activities along the busy road corridor.
During the arrest, a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of three mobile phones, a dagger, and a motorcycle, which police believe were used in carrying out criminal operations.
SP Adeh further disclosed that the suspect was not alone, noting that a suspected accomplice managed to escape during the operation and is currently at large. Efforts are ongoing to track and arrest the fleeing suspect.
She added that the arrested suspect is currently in police custody and will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
