A tragic incident in Kogi State has sparked widespread outrage after a 30-year-old teacher, Maryam Usman, reportedly died from injuries she sustained following an alleged assault by the father of a pupil she disciplined.
According to the Kogi State Police Command, the incident happened on June 18, 2026, at Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School in Ugbamaka, Okpo District, located in Olamaboro Local Government Area. Police said the suspect, identified as Abdullahi Ishaka, allegedly arrived at the school with two women and attacked the teacher over disciplinary action she had taken against his child.
Authorities said Maryam Usman was initially treated at a hospital in Ugbamaka before being transferred to Iko-Ojo Hospital in Okpo due to the severity of her injuries. She later died on June 25 despite medical efforts to save her.
The Kogi Police confirmed that a culpable homicide case has been opened. Officers visited the scene, documented evidence, and said the suspects fled before police arrived. A manhunt is underway, and once the suspects are arrested, the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
