The Presidency has dismissed suggestions that Peter Obi remains a major political threat to President Bola Tinubu, insisting that the former Anambra State governor will not repeat his 2023 presidential election victory in Lagos State.
Speaking during an appearance on the Mic On Podcast, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, said the Tinubu administration is focused on governance rather than political distractions. According to him, the government’s performance over the past three years has strengthened its position ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Dare argued that while Obi may have posed a challenge in the past, the current administration is confident in its record. He said the government has introduced policies aimed at addressing Nigeria’s economic and social challenges and believes those achievements will earn the support of voters.
The presidential aide also criticised Obi’s public comments and interviews, claiming that some of his responses to national issues lacked clarity and failed to present practical alternatives. He maintained that the administration is more interested in implementing its agenda than engaging in political exchanges.
Peter Obi won Lagos State in the 2023 presidential election, defeating Tinubu in what was widely regarded as one of the biggest surprises of the poll. However, Sunday Dare expressed confidence that the ruling party would reclaim the state in the next presidential election. His remarks reflect the Presidency’s position and remain part of the ongoing political debate as preparations for the 2027 elections gather pace.
