The Presidency has distanced itself from a man identified as Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, accusing him of falsely presenting himself as the head of a non-existent federal agency known as the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, also referred to as the Presidential Economic Advisory Council.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency said the agency has no legal existence and described Adeyemi as an impostor facing criminal prosecution over allegations of forgery, impersonation, and obtaining money under false pretences.
According to the statement, the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President was the first to alert security agencies after reports emerged that forged appointment letters carrying fake signatures, official seals, and reference numbers were being used to claim leadership positions in the fictitious agency.
Investigators also alleged that the suspect organised meetings with diplomats and government officials while presenting the organisation as a legitimate government body. Authorities say he even sought official diplomatic support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to facilitate visa applications for members of the alleged agency.
The Presidency stated that police investigations led to Adeyemi’s arrest in October 2025, after which several allegedly forged documents and other exhibits were recovered. Officials maintained that the case is now before the courts and urged the public to disregard claims linking the Presidency or the Office of the Chief of Staff to the activities of the suspect.
The government also dismissed allegations made by Adeyemi against Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, insisting that it was Gbajabiamila’s office that first reported the alleged fraud to security agencies. The Presidency has identified Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew as an alleged impostor accused of heading a non-existent presidential council and facing trial over forgery and impersonation charges.
