Former Secretary to the Benue State Government (SSG), Professor Joseph Alakali, has died after sustaining gunshot injuries during an attack by suspected bandits along the Otukpo–Makurdi Highway in Benue State.
According to reports, the incident occurred on June 22, 2026, when armed men ambushed travelers on the busy highway. Professor Alakali was shot during the attack and immediately rushed to a hospital, where he underwent medical treatment.
