Beyond damage to homes and infrastructure, NIHSA warned that floodwaters could pollute boreholes and other drinking water sources. The agency also expressed concern that many state governments have not acted on its annual flood forecasts and early warning advisories. It urged authorities to improve drainage systems, clear blocked waterways, and strengthen emergency preparedness to reduce the impact of the expected peak flooding between July and September.
