Iran captain Mehdi Taremi has accused FIFA and the organisers of the 2026 FIFA World Cup of creating conditions that could force his team out of the tournament, following a series of logistical and administrative challenges.
Speaking after Iran’s 1-1 draw with Egypt, Taremi expressed frustration over what he described as unfair treatment throughout the competition. He claimed the Iranian squad had faced repeated travel disruptions, visa issues, and restrictions that made it difficult for the team to prepare properly for matches.
According to the striker, FIFA President Gianni Infantino personally assured the team that their concerns would be addressed after visiting the dressing room. However, Taremi said little changed afterwards, leaving the players feeling abandoned and questioning whether they were truly welcome at the tournament.
The Iran captain suggested that the difficulties experienced by the team have created the impression that some people would rather see Iran eliminated from the competition than progress to the knockout stage.
Iran’s head coach also echoed similar concerns, criticising the treatment of his squad and calling on FIFA to ensure every participating nation is given equal opportunities regardless of political circumstances.
