A divorce-seeking pastor has told a Grade A Customary Court sitting in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, that his wife allegedly threatened him with a cutlass during a Sunday church service.
The petitioner, identified as Akorede, made the allegation while asking the court to dissolve his marriage to his wife, Damilola.
Allegation of violence in church
According to the husband, the situation between him and his wife had broken down badly, and it allegedly escalated to the point where she brought a cutlass to church and threatened him during a Sunday service.
He told the court that the incident caused public embarrassment and fear for his safety, adding that the marriage had become unbearable due to repeated conflict.
Wife’s counter-accusations
The wife, however, denied the allegations and accused her husband of infidelity, claiming he had been involved with another woman, including an alleged 18-year-old girl.
She argued that the husband’s actions contributed to the crisis in their marriage and opposed his request for divorce on those grounds.
Court to continue hearing
The court is expected to continue proceedings as both parties present further evidence and witnesses to support their claims.
