According to Obi, the reported expenditure, estimated at about ₦8.83 trillion, was not reflected in the 2025 budget, raising questions about legislative oversight and public financial management. He maintained that such funds, if properly managed, could have been invested in critical sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and job creation.
The former Anambra State governor described the situation as evidence of what he called “grand corruption” and argued that it reflects broader governance challenges under the ruling APC administration. He further claimed that the government’s handling of the economy, security, and citizens’ welfare has fallen short of expectations.
Obi reiterated that, in his view, the President should step down, insisting that the administration has not fulfilled its campaign promises or adequately addressed the country’s pressing economic and social problems.
