Popular media personality and broadcaster Rufai Oseni has publicly questioned presidential aide Bayo Onanuga over comments criticizing opposition figures who have called for President Bola Tinubu to resign.
The debate began after opposition politician Peter Obi reportedly suggested that President Tinubu should consider stepping down over the country’s economic and security challenges. In response, Onanuga dismissed the call as immature and politically motivated.
Reacting during a broadcast, Rufai Oseni challenged the presidency’s position by drawing attention to the actions of the ruling party when it was in opposition. He questioned whether the then-opposition APC was also being “childish” when its members demanded the resignation of former President Goodluck Jonathan during periods of insecurity and national concern.
Oseni further argued that many of the issues cited by the APC against Jonathan’s administration years ago, including insecurity and economic hardship, remain major concerns in the country today. He also referenced statements made by APC figures before the 2015 elections, noting that the party had previously adopted strong opposition tactics while seeking political change.
The exchange has sparked fresh conversations across social media and political circles, with supporters and critics of both sides debating whether political parties should be held to the same standards they advocated when they were in opposition.
As Nigeria continues to grapple with economic pressures and security concerns, the disagreement highlights the growing tension between the government and opposition voices ahead of future political contests.
